# Capture and edit with keyboard shortcuts

Keyboard shortcuts make repeated editing easier. The capture command belongs to the browser; viewer shortcuts act on the capture you have opened.

## Start or stop a capture

Alt+Shift+S starts full-page capture on a normal webpage. Browser shortcut settings can change or override this combination. Esc or the capture pill cancels a running capture.

A shortcut cannot grant access to an internal browser page or protected content. Keep the target page active throughout the capture and check the viewer when processing finishes.

## Use shortcuts inside the viewer

1. A opens annotation, C opens crop and V selects annotations.
2. 0 fits the capture; 1 shows actual size. Plus and minus change zoom.
3. Ctrl+Z undoes and Ctrl+Shift+Z redoes. Arrow keys move a selected annotation by one pixel, or ten with Shift.
4. Ctrl+D duplicates a selected annotation; Delete removes it. D downloads, and Esc cancels a drag or text edit.

## Keep focus and selection in mind

A shortcut has meaning in the editor only when that viewer is active and the relevant action is available. If you are editing text, letters belong to the text field. Finish or cancel that edit before using tool shortcuts.

When a browser command interferes, use the visible control and check focus. Review the exported result rather than assuming a keystroke completed the intended action.

## A worked example

Set the capture command in the browser’s shortcut settings and test it on a normal website. In the viewer, focus matters: typing inside a label must not be treated like a drawing command. Finish text entry before using editor shortcuts. Check which action actually ran instead of repeatedly pressing an ambiguous key. Browser assignments can conflict with other extensions or system shortcuts; use the toolbar as a reliable comparison path.

Add your observations. This template processes no files and sends no report.

### Check the result

### If something is wrong

**Observation and next step**

| Observation | Next step |
| --- | --- |
| Capture shortcut does nothing | Inspect the browser assignment and conflicts, then compare with the toolbar. |
| A key enters text | Finish label editing before using tool shortcuts. |
| Wrong tab captured | Activate the intended page before invoking the browser command. |

## Common questions

**Why does a shortcut type a letter instead?**

A text input may have focus. Finish the text edit and return to the viewer tools before using letter shortcuts.

**Does Delete remove a capture from history?**

In the viewer, Delete applies to a selected annotation. History deletion is a separate confirmed action in the history controls.

Review the actual saved file before sharing. Local history can retain the original capture separately from an edited or redacted export.
