# Use local history without losing important work

Local history is a convenient place to reopen recent captures. It is a rotating collection of twelve originals, not a cloud backup or a permanent document archive.

## What stays in history

The extension keeps the newest twelve captures on this device. Small thumbnails help you find a recent result without loading every full image. Original captures remain available while your edits apply to exports.

A different browser profile or installation is not an automatic copy of this history. Clearing extension data or removing the extension can affect locally stored material. Save important images to a location you control.

## Revisit and keep a capture

1. Open the recent capture entry or local history controls.
2. Choose the original you need and inspect it in the viewer.
3. Make any required edits, then download the intended result under a useful name.
4. Verify the downloaded file before deleting an entry from history.

## Deleting history and exports is different

History deletion asks for confirmation and is keyboard accessible. Deleting a local history entry does not remove files you already downloaded. Likewise, deleting an export does not automatically erase its original history capture.

This distinction matters for private information. Redacting an exported image does not remove the unredacted original from history. Review both the file you share and the local material you choose to retain.

## A worked example

History keeps a recent local collection of original captures and is capped at twelve items. A new capture can therefore remove an older entry from that collection. Download important work before continuing a large series. Original history is not a cloud backup and does not promise to retain every editing session. Reopening an original is a useful starting point, but it is different from reopening a previously flattened edited export.

Add your observations. This template processes no files and sends no report.

### Check the result

### If something is wrong

**Observation and next step**

| Observation | Next step |
| --- | --- |
| Older capture missing | Check your downloaded files; recent history is capped and is not a permanent archive. |
| Edits absent after reopening | History retains the original separately; use the edited export you saved. |
| Another device has no history | History is local to the device/profile and is not automatic cloud sync. |

## Common questions

**How many captures does history retain?**

It retains the newest twelve captures. Download older or important results before they leave that rotating collection.

**Does deleting history delete my downloads?**

No. Downloaded files are separate. Remove them deliberately from their saved location if you no longer need them.

Review the actual saved file before sharing. Local history can retain the original capture separately from an edited or redacted export.
