Edit and keep your work

Choose PNG, JPEG or clipboard output

Choose the output for its next use: precise text, a smaller photo-heavy image or a quick paste. Capture and export choices are related, but they are not identical.

PNG and JPEG serve different needs

Capture frames are lossless PNG and are stitched before the final image is encoded. PNG keeps pixels without JPEG compression and is useful for text-heavy interfaces. JPEG can make photo-heavy results smaller, at the cost of compression artefacts.

Editing intermediates and annotated image exports use PNG to avoid repeated lossy compression. A screenshot exported as a PDF is a different Pro workflow and remains image-based rather than searchable text.

Choose and inspect the output

  1. Choose the image format in the capture settings before taking a new screenshot.
  2. For JPEG, select the desired quality and inspect small text after capture.
  3. Make edits in the viewer and download the result you intend to share.
  4. Open the saved file and check its resolution, annotations and private details.

Automatic copy is optional

Automatic Copy asks for the optional clipboard-write permission when selected. It does not request permission to read your clipboard. If you decline the automatic-copy permission, manual copy in the viewer remains available.

Clipboard contents can be pasted into other applications. Review the result before using it in a shared document or message, especially if the source page contains personal details.

A worked example

A screenshot contains small labels and a photograph. Begin with PNG for the text-heavy result, then compare a JPEG if file size matters. Open both at actual size and check label edges, arrows and coloured text. The JPEG quality setting applies to JPEG compression; it does not improve source pixels or missing page content. Clipboard output is PNG and needs the user-initiated permission flow. If a destination cannot accept an image paste, use the downloaded file instead.

Common questions

Does FullPageShot read my clipboard?

The optional permission is clipboardWrite. The extension does not request clipboard-read permission.

Why did editing produce a PNG?

Annotated image exports use PNG so repeated edits do not introduce additional JPEG compression losses.
