Capture the right view

Choose a visible-area capture or crop

A smaller screenshot often explains more clearly. Use the visible area when one screen is enough, or crop a captured page to the section that matters.

Choose the scope before capturing

Visible area captures the current page view. Full page is useful when the complete document matters. The crop entry point leads into a capture-and-crop workflow; it does not automatically remove private details outside the final exported region from your original history item.

For a specific section, position the page deliberately and close overlays first. Cropping changes the exported view, while the original is retained locally for restoration.

Crop a result precisely

  1. Open the capture in the viewer and enter Crop.
  2. Adjust the selected rectangle and use the pixel-based fields when exact dimensions matter.
  3. Check that labels and important context remain inside the selection.
  4. Apply the crop and inspect the exported image. Restore original is available if you need to start again.

Keep enough context for the reader

A crop should make the point easy to understand without cutting off essential headings, axes or dates. If annotations already exist, the crop includes their effect in the image. Check arrows and text near the edges after applying it.

Cropping is not the same as solid redaction. Use the Pro redaction tool for private details that must be covered inside an export, and inspect the final file before sharing.

A worked example

A support image needs a failed form field and its error message. Position both within the visible view before capturing. Crop away unrelated sections while keeping the field label and enough surrounding context. Check the final edges at actual size: a tight crop can hide the fact that an error belongs to another field. Cropping an export does not erase the wider original from local history. Treat the original and shared file as separate items when reviewing private information.

Common questions

Does cropping delete the original capture?

The original remains in local history and can be restored. Download the result you intend to share, rather than sharing the original history item.

Can I use exact crop dimensions?

The editor includes pixel-based crop fields. Review the applied result, especially after zooming or adding annotations.
